Previously, I mentioned about the importance of loving and taking good care of yourself which is closely related with loving others/surroundings.
This time I would like to think about “leaning.” Actually, it is also closely related with “loving yourself.” Because listening to your inner voice such as “what is necessary for yourself” and “what are things that you really want to do” is your learning and it would lead you to “what to learn.”
Two types of “learning”
I think that “learning” can be categorized into two types. One type of learning is to gain knowledge and to be certified which are necessary for yourself. This may include taking correspondence courses, e-learnings, learning from books and attending seminars and workshops. If you are on maternity leave, it may be a good opportunity for you to review your previous leanings or to learn things which you have been interested in.
When I was on maternity leave, I have spent satisfying quality time by studying for a new qualification and also taking seminars which were not job related but just for fun. I believe that these leanings are helpful to develop your career. Also, taking seminars give you opportunities to meet new people and you will be inspired by these people which will be a great learning for you.
Things that we can learn from every day of our lives
Another type of learning is “learning through every day of our lives.”
Having talked with many women, I have an impression that many of them have a feeling of “impatience” and “anxiety,” in other words, they have a thirst for fulfillment. I think it is because they force themselves “to live up to expectations from others” or to discredit themselves by comparing to someone else. There are thoughts such as; it’s probably better to study for a new qualification, I should take a seminar same as others, I need to
gain more knowledge and to learn new skills otherwise I will be left behind…
When I meet those type of people, I always tell them that “there are so many things that we can learn through every day of our lives.” For those who lament over their circumstance where they have no time to spend for themselves due to child-rearing, I give an advice for them to realize that it is a great learning they can have through relationship with their children. Remarks of children, their behavior and growth are full of learnings which we are not able to recognize through our jobs. I am sure that we can learn from little ones “truly precious things” which we tend to forget in every day of our lives.
For those who look after elderly parents, they can learn about old age, knowledge on diseases and care. You can even learn from a person with an objectionable manner at work that what kind of words or behavior to make oneself being disliked by others. Or if this person was your manager, you may be able to learn a tip from him how to be an ideal leader you would like to be.
To develop a depth of humanity through leanings from every day of our lives
As mentioned above, there are full of learnings in every day of our lives and I would like you to try to see it. We can learn various things from what happen to us and people we meet. There are deep and great learnings in every day of our lives which we are not able to obtain from internet search engines.
Those who learn a lot from every day of their lives would develop a depth of humanity
and gain personal magnetism. And I believe that accumulation of learnings and
continuous learning would lead to not only career development but also self-development.
